By the Founding Act of February 14, 2024 (AEM No. 186), adopted by His Holiness, the Serbian Patriarch G. Porfiria, the Missionary Department of the Archdiocese of Belgrade-Karlovica was founded as a non-profit organizational unit of the Serbian Orthodox Church, whose goal is the improvement of existing and the development of new missionary activities in the canonical area of the Archdiocese of Belgrade-Karlovica.
The main activities of the AEM Missionary Department are:
- Systematic work in the field of training of younger priests of the Archdiocese for the parish mission.
- Training of priests of the Archdiocese to perform in the mass media sphere.
- Training of priests of the Archdiocese for the missionary use of new media.
- Initiation of missionary activities (primarily lectures and spiritual talks) in English for foreign nationals living in the area or temporarily residing in the territory of the Archdiocese.
- Creation and management of Internet missionary channels with multimedia content.
- Apologetic action aimed at suppressing destructive sectarian, cultic and similar phenomena in the territory of the Archdiocese.
- Holding professional meetings and consultations with the clergy of the Archdiocese on the subject of destructive sectarian, cultic and similar phenomena.
- Informing the Patriarch about all heterodox phenomena and sect-cult actions that threaten church life in the area of the Archdiocese.
- Creation of printed and electronic missionary bulletins, brochures and publications in Serbian and foreign languages for the needs of the temples of the Archdiocese.
- Activation of talented religious teachers of the Archdiocese in the field of the mission of the Church in the narrower sense.
- Promoting public dialogue on the topic of the relationship between Orthodox Christianity and science/culture/technology.
- Improving the mutual level of coordination between missionary-minded priests and religious teachers in the area of the Archdiocese.
- Holding courses and lectures in the field of practical missiology, with the aim of motivating Orthodox Christians from the area of the Archdiocese for an active role in the mission of the Orthodox Church.
The Missionary Department carries out its activities through five different departments. Those are:
- Parish Mission Department
- Foreign Mission Section
- Department for dialogue in the public sphere
- Apologetic Mission Department
- Electronic Mission Section.
The seat of the AEM Missionary Department is in the parish house of the Church of St. Alexander Nevsky in Belgrade, ul. Cara Dušana 63 b.
The baptismal celebration of the AEM Missionary Department is the feast of Saints Cyril and Methodius the Straight Apostles (May 11/24).
Structure of the Missionary Department
The management and professional services of the department are the Manager , Coordinators of missionary departments, Secretary and Translator .
The department also has its own Expert Council , a consultative body composed of elected priests of the Belgrade-Karlovica Archdiocese.
